Nicolas Killen was born in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1964. He is a graduate of the University of Geneva Law Faculty (lic. iur, 1986), where he was Articles Editor of the university review "Le Nouvel Humaniste" (1983-1986), as well as President of "Belles-Lettres". After two years with Borel & Barbey, Nicolas Killen passed the Geneva bar exam. He obtained an LLM degree from the Duke University School of Law, North Carolina, in 1990. Having passed the New York bar exam the same year, Nicolas Killen worked as a foreign associate with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in New York City (1990-1991). Nicolas Killen returned to Borel & Barbey in 1992 as an associate and has been a partner of the firm since 1999.

Nicolas Killen is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the American Bar Association (notably the taxation section), the Swiss Lawyers Federation and the Geneva Bar Association. He is also a member of the Swiss Private Equity and Corporate Finance Association (SECA).

Nicolas Killen focuses his practice on Commercial Law, notably Company Law (setting up, structuring, shareholders' agreements) and Contract Law, as well as on Banking and Finance Law with an emphasis on venture capital. Nicolas Killen focuses equally on mergers and acquisitions. He advises also on national and international tax matters. Nicolas Killen serves on the board of directors of several banks, financial companies and commercial companies. He is also a member of the board of several foundations.
