Luc Hafner was born in 1945 in Geneva, Switzerland. He is a graduate of the University of Geneva Law School (lic. iur., 1970). Luc Hafner was admitted to the bar in Switzerland in 1970. He worked as an associate with Burditt & Calkins in Chicago (1973-1974). Luc Hafner was a partner of the law firm Hafner & de Pfyffer from 1975 to 1987. Luc Hafner became a partner of Borel & Barbey when he joined the firm in 1987.

Since January 1, 2008, Luc Hafner has been the President of the International Museum of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in Geneva. He is also a member of several foundations pursuing charitable and public-interest activities.

From January 1, 2000, to December 31, 2003, Luc Hafner was chief Judge of the first Swiss Military Court of Appeal, handling war crime cases of ex-Yugoslavia and Rwanda. He is also an arbitrator at the Swiss Section of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). Luc Hafner was President of the Automobile Club Suisse (Geneva) from 1985 to 1989, a member and treasurer of the Council of the Geneva Bar Association from 1986 to 1992 and a member of the Geneva State Software Control Commission from 1986 to 1998.

Luc Hafner’s areas of practice are Commercial and Business Law, Corporate Law, Contract Law, Trust and Estate. He acts as protector and/or trustee or legal adviser to many high net worth families. Luc Hafner is a member of the Board of Directors of many Swiss and foreign commercial or finance companies in Switzerland.
